How To Properly Wash Fruits And Vegetables To Remove The Harmful Chemicals | World Truth.TV I agree with the article except I would not use the kitchen sink.... too many variables of daily cross contamination. Depending on the food, I am not much in favor of a long soak as the pesticides are now soaked into the food more than just on the surface? Some things just have to be peeled to eat..safely.. after washed well. I then use a large colander and prepare the lettuce, etc. and sit it in a big bowl or pan fill with water, and distilled white vinegar ..the colander allows one to keep using the vinegar water. put the lettuce or vegetable, fruit in the colander sit in the bowl or pan this goes in the sink , then one can lift up the colander and pour drained water through again until it seems thoroughly rinsed.
For the family I usually leave the drained salad greens etc. in the bowl and colander to serve as the excess water will drain on through and one can then just dump it out before refrigerating the left overs.
Every one in our household seems to have persona preference for type of dressing and bottles of choices are set out for each to put on their own.. Left overs last longer in the refrigerator in the colander in the big bowl is my personal experience as family can help themselves.
I an very chemically sensitive and if too much is left then I would be one to know it first...
One has to figure out what works or each... but our kitchen sink sees too much of varied use throughout a day... to just soak in the sink.... A big bowl gone through the dishwasher is my preference... and if normal washing of fruit does not get the pesticides, etc off.... peeling seems to be the only alternative....every one has to make these decisions unless they spend a lot of extra money and go totally organic... and few of us can afford to do this... unless one grows their own..
