see my comment to the article. We would love to go wind, but the cost of installation and finding someone to do it right here in OK- TX area is hard to come by. We have a security light electric pole we pay for monthly from OG@E and think it would be perfect to put a wind generation on top of it and would be willing to pay them the same amount or less to maintain it and then have dual systems available for part of or whole house. But the incentive is not there. yet.
Until they get solar panels that can resists strong hail, I do not see it as a viable alternative. and the cost of that is prohibitive, too. When most of the people do not even have to pay income tax anymore or very little directly ( we all pay it indirectly ) having a tax credit is only for the those among us who are better off.
OG@E has some wind farms. but no one seems to consider our electric companies involved in private homes and businesses to maintain the units, etc. We do not have underground wiring yet, and those poles are pretty well in the ground. So why not put the units on them and use the same wiring??
I am not an expert in this at all, but it seems the whole approach is the wrong one to get over to alternative energy when few have the money to make the switch. I did do some shopping and pricing and it came down to getting the pole in the ground solid enough to put the unit onto ?
\Before we spend billions on the electric grid renewal in the USA, which is going to be considered as soon, anyway, lets have Congress look to the future and let the utility companies take the lead on this. But I and others are going to expect much less to pay per month for electricity if the wind is doing the work.
Other nations thought about the future while the USA lagged behind and helped every one else out in the world and now we can not take care of ourselves as ours is out of date and worn out and its not just the electric grid.
And if some sort of solar is viable even in an area that does occasionally have hail., then so be it.
And what of that Tesla energy source machine??
In some ways we are in this mess as China , who said thirty years ago they were going solar and should have; got entrapped in carbon fossil fuels and the pollution there is said to be so bad one is in a fog cloud of it.... who conned them into oil from solar?? and now has them trying to buy up Texas and even Canada now as they are all over here and would not have been so much if they had become energy independent and had their cheaper and cleaner solar?.
