healthfinder.gov - Free Nicotine Patches by Mail May Help Smokers Quit see the link.
This is my constructive criticism of the government that follows.
The rest of the history , please!
It was about 20 years ago that the state Medicaid program in Pennsylvania stopped paying for the patches and gum, etc. and the practice got repeated around the nation, These are the poorest among us and already with many having serious health problems , aggravated, if not caused by smoking in the first place. When one has not forgot the past , then one is not so gullible to blame the current leadership for what former ones did and those in power now have not corrected. Yahusha, whom we Christians call Christ Jesus calls us to be over comers not cover uppers. We are not being asked to forget our history , but learn to do better from it. Why make the same mistakes over and over? is the common sense wisdom of the teaching. that any one can follow.
The over the counter cost for the patches was as high then and it is now. for those on poverty level income and its high for others too. who are trying to pay bills and feed ones family and themselves. AND FOR THOSE ON POVERTY LEVEL INCOME, beyond budget.
When one is addicted to a substance, then that big out lay of cash from a meager income is too much and the common sense of the cigarettes being as high or higher over all eludes one with the addiction. But at that time, a couple of decades ago, smokes were much cheaper as the added taxes were not so high which were added to reduce smoking. Taxes does not cure addictions?
Does this all make much sense? of course not. And that is why we need all these hearings and experts and some to sort through all of it to come up with common sense medicine that follows modern science.
So for 20 years, we have said as a society DO NOT SMOKE AND IGNORE REAL ADDICTIONS. BUT TO GET OVER THE ADDICTIONS, YOU MUST SPEND YOU R MEAGER INCOME TO PAY FOR HIGH PRICED TREATMENT. Treatment that is not going to be easy, any way as it never is for those with real addictions.
Most of us, never have had to deal with such cravings, or have we? anyone ever try to get rid of caffeine or sugar addictions? or those junk food additives that were allowed by the FDA to be added to our foods, back in 2002-2003 that are the same addictive" chemicals added to cigarettes by the tobacco companies? And hidden as NATURAL FLAVORINGS THAT MAY BE THESE CHEMICALS AND NOT MSG OR THE REAL THING.
We all think the tobacco CEOS lied to congress back in 1998 when they said nicotine is not addictive. maybe the kind of old was not so much. But through the years these addictive chemicals have been bred in to them GMO TOBACCO is what most are addicted to now who can not quit smoking. DID CONGRESS ASK THE WRONG QUESTION AND NOT GET TO THE FULL TRUTH?
I am thankful I never got hooked on smoking, but many I have known have and some have found it very difficult to quit.
Then multiply that by the very real medical devastation of some of the enhanced drugs like nicotine put in cigarettes in the modern era, or other illegal street drugs and we have an epidemic of devastation that is costing all of us today in one way or another. as it says in the Book of Revelation in the Bible, we are brought down by our 'pharmaceuticals.' And the meaning is not life saving medicines, in that context , either..
ANCIENT PEOPLE, HAD ADDICTIONS, TOO. BUT FAITHS HAD STRONG RULES WITH REAL PUNISHMENTS AGAINST GETTING HOOKED WHICH IS CALLED A 'SIN'. A SIN THAT HARMS THE HOOKED INDIVIDUAL AS WELL AS SOCIETY AS A WHOLE THAT IN ITS HUMANITY HAS TO DEAL WITH THE HEALTH ISSUES AND OTHER LOSSES OF ONE BEING ABLE TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES. AS A RESULT Its why its so important to have access to know the meaning of words translated from other languages. We lose some meanings that were well understood in ancient times.
So some how common sense has again returned? and those patches will now again be paid for to help those save future health care costs that are often for more than a few hundred dollars of patches. we as a society will pay for from our shared taxes.
Now , how can we help our 'hooked' friends and relatives. Help them keep occupied with something else , when they feel the 'need for a smoke.' I would like to know more..... just to help. I am no doctor or counselor professional. But what can each of us do to help out? for we all pay for the health care costs if others get sick or sicker. And in our era of 'reason and science calling some action as a 'sin' does not always resonate. It may have the opposite affect, when said to some teenager, as all parents know too well that saying do not, may mean they will.
NOW WHAT CONTRACTOR WILL GET THE BIG BUCKS TO MAIL OUT THOSE PATCHES TO EVERY HOUSEHOLD IN THE USA? That children may get a hold of and put on themselves... and get hooked on nicotine, etc. or over dosed on? Or does that government contractor know now, which household has a smoker living in it already? HOW? BY SNOOPING ON AN ACTION THAT IS STILL LEGAL IN THE USA, EVEN IF HARMFUL TO ONE AND ALL? But not a terrorist act!
Why not just have a check out coupon on the package so the store gets full refund from the manufacturer. Mailing out those patches could end up with children wearing them who do not smoke??? Does the government contractors really need to know our every move? Having the check out coupon on the box allows one to try and kick the addiction, privately, and others, buy, to encourage others to try and stop smoking. by having them available to use if one decides to take the path to freedom from addiction.
We do need some laws and rules to live by in a society as any one can be tempted to do something they should not do. for the best life and health for themselves or others. . All should ask: DO LAWS AND REGULATIONS ENSLAVE US? OR DO THEY ENABLE US EACH TO BE FREE AND INDEPENDENT AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE ?
