Daily Recap 10/22/12: Family History,Real? President Obama Born In Topeka KS; Feeling a little better, but watching carefully what is eaten to avoid anything that may have hidden Formaldehyde products in it. Received a small check today form the Class mates class action law suit. I never actually gave them any money, but they  do keep asking me to join and saying others have signed my guestbook. I have not responded as it costs money. Any former class mates of mine, can join me on my face book. I just ask for no porn and nothing too overly gross in pictures  or words. Opinions welcome!.  Many do have a diverse array of them, especially in this election cycle. Been very fortunate so far.. Most of my friends, are expressing words of spiritual encouragement and some choose not to share in that. Personally, I find them very uplifting when spiritually in need of this, and prayerfully I can reciprocate. Was in receipt of some history of the Roman catholic church and some political intrigue at the very top and some not very good.
And wish to assure those of sincere faith that that is not being questioned.by sharing it on on line.  Personally , I think a lot of people are going to be saved for eternity  in spite of their denominations and churches and sects. Why is it ,when great power ad wealth gets accumulated, so often those that find themselves in high positions, too often  fall to evil temptations.   The rest of the mail, was wanting us to buy things, we have no money to buy. personally, I could get by with only having mail delivered two or three times a week, but businesses do need mail delivery more often. Laws would need to be amended to add extra days for time limits  for any deadlines. Many times what is in the mail is also received online in ads too. every day I routinely go through and delete about 3/4th of the e-mails received as they are of this nature. But, when I do this very often, the system thinks I'm calling it spam and so spam is always checked. I do want to receive the ads as sometimes, I may need to buy something as most of my purchases are on line

PRESIDENT OBAMA BORN IN TOPEKA KS: Yesterday, I wrote about a visit by one of my dad;s sisters and her husband,Aunt Pearl and Uncle Tom Vallier. Overhearing a different version of  history my grandparents, I walked in and the story switched immediately to another person.  I was feeling some of the hurt that Mom and I had shared in Colorado when I was 8 and found out some of the family history was not the truth.? Usually, it was too hurtful  to ask questions and they not being willing to answer.  This is one time I saw my Dad actually tear up as I 'pushed the envelope' and began telling Aunt Pearl about what had been shared so routinely about their grandparents.
But, the story was always repeated by my Mother and I don;t know where she got it. supposedly from some of Dad's sisters or parents. I realized that when Mom was repeatng it, she was looking for a response from my Dad or others in the family. A confirmation of truth  or lie. So often, I saw my Dad suffer emotionally when she did this. It was as if He could not confirm or deny it. Why? Why not tell the basics? What was the fear that seemed to accompany the emotion? My Dad never seemed to want to draw attention to himself by appearing to have much wealth, yet we really did not have that much compared to others in our neighborhood. I'd say we had less income.  What is often called 'land poor.' Only visible assets were in land and most  would not be aware there was any property other than our small bungalow house on Randolph St in a better part of Topeka, but certainly not the BEST part of town that was a little further  toward the city limits.. Our neighbors were doctors, bank officials as well as civil servants and the owner of a garage, a plumber and military personnel, factory worker, etc.  It was a neighborhood that represented a cross section of society. My Dad would be seen as one of the upper lower class, work wise.It was a neighborhood where some stayed for years, like us and others would be moving in and out as they rose in their professions or, in those years, was there working on the NASA projects or professsional medical internships, or the military transferred them elsewhere.
The story I had always  been told about my Dad's  maternal grandparents was that they were the Simpson's from Pottawatomic\e County and Jim Simpson had racehorses. One day an 11 year old native American boy showed up and became his jockey and they always won the races. One day they did not win and the gamblers were covinced that Charles Curtis, a future Vice President of the USA  had intenationally ' thrown ' the race.
Grandpa Simpson had married Flavia Regnier ( they pronounced it Ringey, in Breckenridge area, where he had a job as shot gun on stage coaches hauling gold out of the mines.)  There were two sisters in that family and their mother took in washing to allow her daughters to study fine arts. One, Great Aunt Mary, who I met when age 8 had studied painting and Flavia had studied piano. At the time of the incident when Charles Curtis was in danger of being lynched by a mob; their mother, a widow, was living with them and went out and faced the  mob after hiding Charles in a false bottom compartment  under a manure wagon   It was a story of heroism to convince the mob that nothing intentional had occurred..
Charles Curtis went off to Haskell Indian Institute ad his history is well known after that. Grandpa Jim  Simpson went on down to OK and  had horses to help build the railroad being built to Colorado after  the State of KS had outlawed  horse racing.
I had already spent time in  libraries trying to confrm this story; and now it seemed it may not be true.What was true? Aunt Pearl looked at me as if she was hearing this story for the first time and yet it would be her family history?  she said she didn't know anything more about it. Where did my Mom get this? This is when My Dad almost completely broke down and cried. I didn't say any more.
Later on, a person on that side of the  Regnier family, did a geneaolgy and again it was my Mom that filled out the family history for it.They even got invited to a family reunion after I had married and moved away and Mom told about how there were clergy of many faiths their, Nuns and priests as well as various Protestant clergy. Dad never said anything. The story never changed as told, like reading a script; and no one ever added anything more to it. There is an old photograph like those from th 1890's of two young women and I was told it was of Great Aunt Mary and Elizabeth Jane Simpson.   But one can't tell where the picture was take?. Could have been anywhere, to me? Is this a true story? If so why wouldn't one ever fill in any more parts of it Like some other stories of their life or things they did or said? When one grows up in families one has lots of things to add as time goes by and events happen and people remember when so and so said this or did that. Often something humorous, sometimes a sad event. This was a two dimensional story.
 Over the years since, I've at times tried to confirm any part of this. There is a grave in KS of he Ringey's in  a cometary. from the 1800's. The story is that when he and son were in the ciivl war the name got missipelled and when they got penions, they came wit the name misppeled and it never got corre4ctedand they always used the worng mispelled names. Never been able to corroborate this either.
 Some of the distant relatives in that line of family were contacted and some Christmas cards exchanged. yet they never seemed to be able to add any knowledge of these people to the story of them. Were they part of the family?  Most people really don't seem to  know who all their extended family is and if the people contacting them seem to be  a decent sort, they just accept them as distant family. When Christ asked, Who are my brothers and sisters ( family) maybe it is the entire human race and whom we decide to allow them to be in our closer circles?
The end of the tale was that aftr the death of the wife, Jim Simpson ended up in South Dakota and was present when Wild Bill Hitchcock died, having known him years earlier and been one of his deputies in Abilene KS. Supposedly Flaviat and Jim are he prototype of the two Pony express riders that fell in love and got married and she hid that she was a girl.  This is parft of the gorup in the TV series "The Young Riders"/. In more recent times, there is one person that has the same full name as Great Grandpa Simpson. he was put on trial in the 90's for murering his wife and the whole world watehd it on TV. Did Jim Simpson marry a Black woman and he is in the family? Apparently his orgins were from the Dakotas' . At the time, I was growing up  and being told this story, he hadn't even begun to pay football as too young yet.  Beware adopting another's historical story as who may end up in the younger generations!
Yet no details and no confirmations have ever been located. of any of this form any time period.  Maybe something more is available onlne. But, one gets left with a lot of questions. One thing is certain to me was Dad and Aunt Pearl were sharing a real experience when they thought no one else was listening. Uncle Tom had just retired and maybe they were trying to find some source of income? But she did not say so. She never asked for any money from my Dad as it was obvious that we didn't have much cash flow.  They seemed to be doing okay.  We had visited there home near Council Bluffs about that time and they were not needy. Uncle Tom had a job in town as well as their farm. And all their children had  gone to college and many had advocated degrees.
My sister Carol was working on a geneaology herself of the Simpson family at the time of her death in 1/71. For some reason, her husband took all the research and went out back and burned it, my Mom said. Our family had already flown back home after saying our last good byes and she lapsed into a final coma..  What did Carol find out? Mom thought her husband's motives was trying to deal with  grief. Many times, one just does not know, or may never know.  All Dad would ever say, many times, was it will take four generations to come back. As far as I was ever told, none of the family had ever been high enough financially or personally to "come back."
Maybe, my searching for answers is part of why I learned to love History and the other Social sciences. Its a search for TRUTH! Sociology is a modern field. Psychology is not that much older. Why do people do what they do? Why do groups do things?. Why aren't they more forthcoming with their own history. In none of the history did I ever learn of any 'horrible criminals.' Not even a 'horse thief." Unless one of current time is in that Simpson Family as he bears the same full name? Maybe it is his family, but not our family? If he is? I'm sad he made some very worng choices in his life and is now serving jail time for them. if he isn;t / Its still sad that any one makes such bad choices? Maybe if more, like him, understood the TRUTH, few would do such things?
