I also posted late last night of more killings of Christians in Nigeria which is being forgotten in much of the multiple wars going on right now.
I grew up in the Church of the Brethren, one of the historical peace churches. Nigeria was one of the original over seas mission fields of the denomination. A few decades ago, Christianity took off and began spreading through informal 'house churches ' in Nigeria. AND THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS BLOWING THROUGH FASTER THAN ONE COULD IMAGINE IN THE USA WHERE CHURCH ATTENDANCE WAS GOING DOWN, NOT UP.
The denomination in Nigeria, decided to form their own Annual Conference which is like the 'governing body in most churches where the Anabaptist type governing structure is used of a democratically elected body. Where leaders are elected by all baptized members and delegates from each church based on population as to how many each get, who then elect the top positions. I became a full voting member at age 9 after I was baptized. The church in Nigeria does send a Representative to the Annual Conference in the USA but they have been pretty much autonomous and self governing and originally the faith itself tends to spread faster when done informally and from person to person. over the last 2000 years. And without knowledge of history how does one know that?
Most media have not covered that many of those being martyred for their faith in Nigeria are of the Church of the Brethren faith roots and the marvelous story of the spread of Christianity by the converts from their own people. Its why its so heart wrenching for the atrocities to be going on there and why EVIL HAS TARGETED AN AREA THAT IS A THREAT TO EVIL ITSELF.
We are dealing with religious wars all over the world right now by some who will not accept that anyone else has a right to believe differently than they. IS IT BELIEVING DIFFERENTLY OR BEING FREE FROM DOMINATION BY A SELECT FEW WHO HAVE DECIDED RELIGION IS TO BE USED FOR CONTROLLING THE MASSES.
Due to this kind of controls of the masses, our children, in the USA no longer understand what causes wars now or in history as anything to do with 'religion' is banned, especially if it has anything to do with religious sects in existence to day. Without the study of religion, there is now History to study for its ones beliefs that create our history of good and bad choices.
And its not easy for the younger generations, to understand that in Europe only a hundred years ago or so, and still in many parts of the world, one citizenship in the nation was dependent upon one being a member of a particular religious sect.
There is no better ruling document humanity has written so far than the US Constitution as I our founders well understood the history of the world and the part that religion has played in it when misused by those who have gained power over others.
Its why the 'freedom to spread the teachings of Christ, with minimal 'controls; in Nigeria would come under fire by those in Islam not willing to accept that nay one else has the right to believe in a different path. Evangelizing was too effective and Christianity was growing more rapidly than in nations that considered itself one where the majority followed YAHUSHA WHOM CHRISTIANS CALL CHRIST JESUS. FREEDOM IS INHERENT IN THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST .
We would get reports from Nigeria almost weekly of the miracle going on over there such as this week a dozen more house churches had sprung up while the pews in our sanctuary seemed to be getting more vacant each week and we could not figure out why we could not share the Gospel here as they were able to over there. We were bogged down in board meetings and who was to bring what to the next pot luck supper while over there it seemed the Holy Spirit was getting things done with no effort but the teachings and the Holy Spirit itself being followed.
The only real 'controls ' in Christianity is that ones actions be guided by love for one another. And if one does not respect the rights of each and every one, then love can not be the motivating factor.
I see no 'love' being demonstrated in the horrors of slaughter and wars.
WE ARE DEALING WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR ACTIONS OR NON ACTIONS OF HISTORY BOTH RECENT AND MORE DISTANT AND SOME HOW WE MUST TURN THIS AROUND.
VOTE FOR HISTORY PROVES THAT EACH AND EVERYONE OF US PARTICIPATING IN THE PROCESS OF SELF GOVERNING IS THE ONLY WAY TO OVER COME THE EVIL THAT HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO OVER TAKE US IN ALMOST EVERY FACET OF OUR LIVES HERE AND AROUND THE WORLD.
As long as evil is around, we will need some kind of police and basic rules and laws to live by plus OVERSIGHT of matters and each of us is called to participate in whatever way our unique individual gifts and abilities each of us has to have a better life of peace and justice for all. THE CODE WORD IS FREEDOM NOT CONTROL. ALL MEANS ALL, NOT A SELECT FEW THAT HAVE DECIDED THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS FOR THAT IS SETTING THEMSELVES UP TO BE A god. and why they would not want the 10 Commandments, the original document of philosophy of government that our US Constitution was grounded in when Moses came down off the mountain and declared; PHARAOH IS NOT A GOD AND NEITHER IS ANY OTHER KING OR DICTATOR OR PERSON WITH GREAT WEALTH AND POWER. Without historical understanding of religion, how can anyone understand the meaning of humans have done throughout the ages? No wonder those who wish to deny us our basic human rights want them removed from sight, for it describes themselves declaring to be 'god' . And the last commandment says thou shall not abuse the power of ones govt office. One has to delve into some of the original languages to fully understand the meaning of 'covet,' AS ITS FAR MORE THAN WANTING OR BEING GREEDY. A few hundred years ago, those who were able to get an education, seemed to know more than our current system is providing when ALL are supposed to be learning. They did know the ancient languages and did understand human history grounded in the belief systems and those that founded this nation, knew exactly what our governing documents of history really meant.
